Setting up the Classroom Before School

Setting up the Classroom Before School

– Written by Sam (2nd Year Fellow, 2012-2014 PEL Cohort, Teaching full-time at Unquowa School)

Last week, the Unquowa faculty went on a mindfulness retreat where we learned about the importance of experiencing mindfulness, both in our own lives and in the lives of our students. After the retreat, Mrs. Barbuto and I were busy setting up our classroom for the year. I never realized how much there was to do in the classroom BEFORE the students even arrive. We built a nice new rolling white board, pinned up the Alphabet, and organized all the bookshelves, which had been moved around during some Summer maintenance work. I look forward to my year in Kindergarten. Stay tuned for a post about my first week with the students!
